Infrastructure replacements - 2013 to 2016
After the 2010 Canterbury Earthquake Sequence, infrastructure required replacement to prevent infiltration of groundwater into existing lines and leaching of sewer into the ground. Abbotts undertook significant works to CCTV existing pipelines and re-line private laterals from the boundary to the council main. Often, a Cured In Place Pipe (CIPP) solution was deployed.
This is where a structural liner that is manufactured on site inside of an existing buried pipe or conduit is implemented. The liner consists of a flexible tube manufactured from a polyester felt fibre material, fiberglass, or a combination of the two that is then saturated with a resin system that can be cured by either hot water or steam. The length and thickness of the CIPP liner was sized and engineered according to pipe length, diameter and load requirements.
