Septic Tanks & Grease Traps

Septic Tanks & Grease Traps

Septic tanks are common in rural areas and in older, more established parts of Auckland. They are often constructed with concrete, although nowadays plastic is the more common material.

Septic tanks often overflow due to the accumulation of solids. A septic tank has a rodding eye or access point just before the sewer line from where the house enters the tank (also known as a “mushroom”). If there is waste coming out of this point it is a good indication that the tank is full or the amenities (toilets) are blocked (or flowing out the gully trap).

A note of caution in the cleaning of septic tanks; as there is significant environmental risk, a septic should be cleaned completely and using the correct method. It should be cleaned through the lid not through the rodding line (mushroom), as this will not clean the tank properly.

Thus, we will require the lid of the tank to be exposed and accessible by our vehicle for us to complete our job properly. Abbotts have vacuum loaders to all sizes to suit your requirements, contact us to have your septic tank cleaned properly.

Grease traps have very similar requirements to septic tanks – contact us to book a convenient time to have your grease trap cleaned.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your team for a great job at our home. The speed and thoroughness was impressive. We were worried about our situation we had discovered but it was a comfot to know we had knowledgable people who got right onto the job and reassue us it could be fixed.
All the men were very professional and the clean up was great – like you had never been here! Once again – thank you.
Regards
Sue Challis
